New Leaders Project

The New Leaders Project is an exciting part of EqualityMaine’s Youth Initiative to improve the climate for LGBTQ+ youth by providing leadership skills, community building, and self-empowerment. This leadership camp is for LGBTQ+ teenagers who want to immerse themselves for 5 days along with other young leaders from across Maine.

In July of 2017, the New Leaders Project was held for the 8th time, but this go around the program was held as an overnight camp on the campus of University of Southern Maine in Gorham. More than 30 teenagers from across Maine gained skills such as interpersonal communication, knowing your rights, self-empowerment, event planning, and more. The young people who have graduated from this program are able to apply what they learned to positive change in their own lives, local communities and schools. Thanks to the support of our donors and grantors, the New Leaders Project camp was provided at no cost to the youth participants!

Stay tuned for New Leaders Project information and applications later this spring!
